The second phase was locating the source she had felt earlier in the Medial, the one she swore would bring an end to this horror. Raveena knew emotions were a psychic beacon when they were strong enough. Hence the reason, she, herself, kept hers under control outside the void. Negative emotions felt strong enough for a long enough time, ping to the universe like a dot on sonar. Some humans, especially gifted, unawakened, or those chosen by the universe for a specific purpose, were a spotlight. The Witch could feel it, a shudder in the Ether.
She was listening for it, perhaps without even realizing it. Had she been unconsciously searching for something to stop them? If she heard them, then too, the pack might also have sensed them. There was no way to stop them from finding the source but she could guide whomever along the way.
Currently, she had no shelter of her own. The abandoned church she found would have to do for the moment. It was Yaweh’s church, the one who declared himself a god and masqueraded later as his own son. She growled and flicked her wrist and the cross still hanging above the altar ignited.
Though she despised his religion because he wasn’t a god, he had kept the darker realms in order. Asmodeus could never have gotten this far if Yahweh was around. That much she could admit.
Raveena had an ulterior motive for coming to a church. She needed the holy water font if there was any water left. A few feet past the entrance she found it; stone with religious symbols carved around the bowl. There was just enough water for what she needed.
“Fons Revelare.” She whispered.
Raveena was commanding the universe to give her answers. As she spoke, she passed her hand over the water’s surface. Slowly, with the quality of bad camera footage, an image began to emerge. It was a woman in her mid-twenties, with shoulder-length blonde hair and blue-green eyes.
Of course, it was a woman, she thought. The pack would go to her, she would never seek them out. Raveena listened, feeling for the emotion that had drawn her attention.
It was rage Raveena was sensing, infinite rage. A level no normal human could muster. There was power in this emotion, she was sensing. Somehow, this mortal was in league with death or some other darkness. The pack was dark, evil, certainly but they paled in comparison. Perhaps, they had broken some universal law or invaded a realm they had no right to enter.
Whatever the reason, the universe had felt cause to set in motion their undoing. Raveena knew it would be a long game. Now, that she was out, she would have to ward herself. Sleep would be necessary but they never slept. There was no safe time but she could pull a few tricks. Dull her energy to barely detectable, send it elsewhere. At least until the game began.
